Making Marking Fun

Equalise Music Production Conference 2022

Scott Hewitt & Jason Ellis

Abstract

Feedback regarding assessment is perhaps considered a priority by students and consequently by institutions. While not looking to undermine the importance of ongoing feedback, we choose in this presentation to focus on assessment generated feedback and in particular our real-time audio feedback method. We suggest that with appropriate assessment design, clearly structured feedback topics, real- time, immediate audio feedback can improve student attainment and also reduce the burden on marking staff. Such feedback perhaps also maps more closely to a commercial context and also creates transferable skills. We also propose some points for further consideration regarding identified best practice running assessments to support the generation of audio feedback.
